Ruminations on all things veterinary hospital operations, from the makers and supporters of Instinct.

Taking radiographs can seem like a straightforward part of the diagnostic process. But getting all the right information to the person interpreting them, and the completed report back where your team needs it, can involve a lot more steps. And for busy veterinary teams, those extra steps can turn a simple submission into a lot of manual work.

That’s why Instinct is partnering with SignalPET, an AI-powered veterinary radiology platform that provides AI-generated radiograph interpretation and access to board-certified radiologists. A new native integration connects SignalPET directly with Instinct EMR, helping teams spend less time moving information between systems and keep more of the radiology workflow connected to the patient record.

Instinct EMR is a PIMS that combines medical excellence with complete practice management so you can run your hospital with all-in-one trusted software. Book a free, no-pressure demo here.

Spend Less Time Moving Patient Information Around

When you’re submitting a radiology study, the clinical context matters. Much of that information may already be sitting in the patient’s record in Instinct EMR, and with the SignalPET integration, teams don’t have to start from scratch.

When a study is submitted, SignalPET can directly retrieve recent patient encounters and relevant history. For Complete Reports and radiologist submissions, longer patient histories can also be summarized into concise clinical context.

Think about how many steps that can eliminate from a typical case: opening the record, finding the relevant history, copying it into another system, checking that nothing important was missed, then submitting the study. Instead, information your team has already documented can follow the patient into the radiology workflow, reducing duplicate work and providing more useful clinical context for the images they’re submitting.

Get Radiology Reports Back Where Your Team Is Already Working

Once the interpretation is complete, the integration also works in the other direction. SignalPET can automatically send completed Immediate, Complete, and Radiologist Reports back into the patient’s record. Practices can choose which types of reports are returned and can configure delivery to fit their needs, including the option to return abnormal results only.

So instead of someone downloading a finished report, switching back to Instinct EMR, finding the patient, and manually adding the results, the report is automatically added to the record. For a patient being managed by multiple veterinarians and technicians, especially during a busy ER or specialty shift, this can make it easier for everyone to find the information they need.

The radiographs may be reviewed elsewhere, but the results are returned to the patient record that your team is already using to coordinate care.

Choose the Level of Radiology Support the Case Needs

Not every case calls for the same type of interpretation. SignalPET offers several options within the same platform, giving teams flexibility depending on the patient and the clinical situation.

Immediate Reports provide findings in approximately 3-4 minutes on average. Complete Reports typically return within 20-30 minutes and incorporate patient history and clinical context, as well as findings, conclusions, and recommendations. When AI confidence is not sufficient, the case can automatically escalate to a board-certified radiologist. Teams can also submit directly for a Radiologist Report.

Because all three report types work with the integration, teams can choose the level of interpretation that fits the case while keeping the report connected to the same medical record.

Instinct EMR unites medical records and practice management in one modern system. Finally, a PIMS that’s as thoughtful and thorough as the care you provide. Book a demo.

Cut Out the Little Tasks That Add Up During a Shift

Sometimes, the biggest benefit of an integration is simply having fewer things for your team to remember. No one has to remember that the radiology report is sitting in another system waiting to be added to the record. There’s less patient information to re-enter before submitting a study. And the team doesn’t have to create a workaround just to keep two systems up to date.

The integration connects the process from patient history to radiology interpretation to the clinical record, helping reduce manual data entry, duplicate work, and switching between systems. That can make a big difference on a packed day, when your team is already juggling patients, diagnostics, treatments, client conversations, and handoffs.

Keep Radiology Connected to the Rest of the Patient’s Care

Instinct EMR is designed to bring the information veterinary teams need into the workflows where care is actually happening. The SignalPET partnership extends that connection into radiology.

Practices can connect Instinct EMR to SignalPET using their API credentials within the SignalPET app. From there, patient information can flow from Instinct EMR into SignalPET when a study is submitted, and completed reports can flow back into Instinct EMR based on the team’s preferences.

And when you’re in the middle of a busy shift, one less thing to copy, upload, check, or chase down is always a good thing.
