You finish an appointment, your note is ready, and then comes the part nobody loves: getting that note out of one system and into another. Copy, paste, double-check that it landed in the right spot. It’s tempting to think any scribe attached to your PIMS solves this. But “having a scribe” and “well integrated” are two very different experiences.
What matters isn’t that two tools share a login. It’s if your schedule shows up on its own, your notes land exactly where they belong, and the history you need is already there when you walk in.
That’s the difference with ScribbleVet and Instinct EMR. They’re separate products, but they come from the same company and the integration between them was built to be tight. Your appointments flow into ScribbleVet and your finished notes flow back into the patient’s chart in Instinct EMR.
Here’s what that looks like in practice.
Your Schedule, Already Waiting for You
You don’t have to go looking for your day. ScribbleVet automatically syncs visits and appointments from Instinct EMR, so the cases you’re seeing are already there. When an appointment comes in from Instinct EMR, you’ll see a visual indicator right on the record, so it’s easy to tell at a glance which notes are connected to the chart and which aren’t.
It also helps when multiple providers are working from the same schedule. PIMS roles and permissions don’t always map neatly to everyday clinic workflows, but ScribbleVet keeps each provider’s cases organized and easy to find. And because clinic days never go exactly to plan, the workflow doesn’t fall apart when a walk-in arrives or a visit gets added on the fly. You can pull it into ScribbleVet and keep moving rather than waiting on the schedule to catch up.

You Decide Where Your Note Lands
Getting a note back into Instinct EMR takes only a few clicks. When an appointment is synced, an Instinct button appears at the top of your Scribbled note. From there, you:
- Click the Instinct button on the note
- Choose a document template from the drop-down
- Push the note into Instinct EMR
Your note shows up as a new document in the patient’s chart in Instinct EMR. You have control over whether it is pushed to a specific visit or added to non-visit documentation, so your records stay organized exactly the way your team expects to find them.
Summarize Medical Records Without Uploading Them Twice
Walking into a case with an extensive history is a lot easier when you’re not flipping through hundreds of pages first. ScribbleVet’s Record Review condenses uploaded records into a summary you can use before you step into the exam room. You can shape it the way you want: chronological, problem-focused, or built around a specific search, like a prior diagnosis. Every finding links back to the exact page in the source document, so you can verify anything in just seconds.
That same capability now exists inside Instinct EMR as Document Summary. And because the records already live in the patient’s chart, there’s nothing to export and re-upload. You summarize what’s already there. For teams running both, it means you’re not loading the same records into your scribe and your PIMS separately. The summary happens right where the records already are.
Why Instinct EMR & ScribbleVet Work So Well Together
That’s what a thoughtful integration should do: move the right information between tools without making your team manage every handoff.
That same thinking extends beyond ScribbleVet and Instinct EMR. ScribbleVet also connects with Plumb’s, another Instinct Science product, so trusted medication guidance can show up where the note is already being written. After you Scribble a note, if medications were mentioned, relevant Plumb’s drug information can appear right there, including dosages, interactions, and client handouts, without leaving your workflow.
That’s the larger benefit of connected tools. Plumb’s is useful on its own, but when that same trusted drug information shows up inside a Scribbled note, it means less switching, less searching, and less second-guessing.
ScribbleVet works across various PIMS platforms, not just Instinct EMR, so adopting it doesn’t mean changing the systems your team already relies on. The goal isn’t to force everything into one system. It’s to bring more trusted veterinary knowledge to wherever you already work, so you can deliver the best care possible.
Start With the Scribe, Connect the PIMS When You’re Ready
You went into veterinary medicine to care for patients, not to shuffle paperwork between disconnected systems. With ScribbleVet and Instinct EMR working together, that information handoff happens in the background, so the details you need are right there when you need them.
If a modernized PIMS is somewhere on your horizon, ScribbleVet and Instinct EMR were designed to fit together, and that connection will keep getting stronger over time. But plenty of practices start with ScribbleVet, get comfortable with how it works, and adopt Instinct EMR down the road when the timing is right. There’s no rush and no wrong order. You don’t have to wait for a full software overhaul to make daily documentation easier.
