In 2017, we became frustrated with the state of veterinary software available to help run our hospitals. So our friendly group of technology and veterinary experts came together and decided to do something about it.
Instinct is backed and led by veterinarians, including many of the industry's leading specialists you know and trust. As a team, we employ over 200 experts, including over 20 veterinarians, with decades of combined experience practicing, leading, advising, and building veterinary centers and point-of-care tools.
As a company, we're driven by one principle: we care. We care about our team. We care about our work. We care about our customers. And we care about the patients and clients that Instinct impacts.
We are the stewards of some of the industry’s leading and essential tools: Instinct EMR, ScribbleVet, Instinct Treatment Plan, Plumb’s Veterinary Drugs, Standards of Care, Clinician’s Brief.
We feel enormous pride and responsibility for maintaining them and work hard to make them better and better every day.
Founder & CEO
Caleb founded Instinct Science in 2017 after years of frustration with outdated software during long ER shifts as a practicing veterinarian — seeing a direct link between limiting technology and clinician burnout, missed charges, and patient safety events. Today, Instinct products serve over 360,000 veterinary professionals worldwide through Instinct EMR, ScribbleVet, Plumb's, Clinician's Brief, and Standards of Care. Caleb earned his VMD from the University of Pennsylvania and continues to practice emergency medicine in the Greater Philadelphia area, where he remains a frequent industry speaker and advocate for technology that improves veterinary patient, staff, and hospital outcomes.

His focus at Instinct is translating real workflow pain into elegant, reliable technology that earns its place in the hospital. He holds a BS in Computer Science from the University of Oregon and is based in the Denver area.
Chief Financial Officer
Katie brings more than 20 years of experience at the intersection of finance and strategy, with the last decade-plus focused on technology and SaaS. She knows what it takes to build the infrastructure and discipline that lets fast-moving companies scale without losing their footing—and believes the best operations teams don't just report on the business, they help build it. Her remit at Instinct spans Finance, Accounting, Data, RevOps, Legal, Compliance, and FinTech. An avid hiker and backpacker, she is deeply at home in the Pacific Northwest.

Before joining Instinct in 2025, he was CMO at KPA, where he helped triple ARR growth and developed a channel strategy that drove more than 50 new industry partnerships. Earlier roles at Viewpoint, Kaufman Hall, and IBM consistently grew revenue, expanded partnerships, and launched thriving user communities. Senior Vice President, Customer Experience
Brian has spent his career helping teams in high-stakes industries earn customer trust and grow. At Instinct, he helps veterinary teams find value fast, then keep growing, turning first-time users into long-term advocates. Before Instinct, he led customer success, sales, and revenue operations across tax and accounting software, healthcare privacy compliance, and cybersecurity. Today he leads Instinct's onboarding, support, success, and education teams, the people who get hospitals live and keep them thriving.
Senior Vice President, Sales
Ed brings 15 years of SaaS and go-to-market experience building sales organizations across the full spectrum, from early-stage startups to large enterprises like IBM, where he led multi-region teams across North America and Latin America. He takes a team-first, data-driven approach and spends as much time coaching reps as he does in front of customers—believing the best deals are the ones where both sides walk away better off. Outside of work, he and his wife are raising three kids and a German Shorthaired Pointer.
Vice President, People
Nikki brings more than 20 years of HR and people operations experience across fast-growing, distributed organizations. Before joining Instinct, she spent nearly a decade in HR leadership at A Place for Mom, leading transformation initiatives and managing complex multi-region and even global teams. As the head of People at Instinct, she oversees the full scope of the HR function with a philosophy that's simple but not always common: lead with kindness, remove barriers, and trust people to do great work. For Nikki, that's not just an HR philosophy — it's personal. She and her team support that mission by building a workplace where talented people do great work and feel genuinely supported while they do it.
Vice President, Customer Success
Devin brings over nine years of experience in customer success and engagement, including six years building and scaling high-performing teams. A PMP-certified leader and steadfast advocate for veterinarians and practice managers, she ensures every clinic has a true partner from onboarding through every milestone of their journey. She brings deep Vet Med tech experience and specializes in leveraging technology to remove administrative burdens so her team can stay focused on delivering real value.
Vice President, Strategic Partnerships
Elliott’s path to Instinct ran through unlikely places: livestock vaccination campaigns in Mozambique, parasite research in India, marine mammal medicine in San Diego, and military service alongside working dogs and Navy SEAL teams. Beyond his DVM, MPH, MS and board certification in preventive medicine, he published a science thriller, built and sold an 8-figure digital marketing agency, and helped bring electronic prescribing into veterinary practice. At Instinct, he builds partnerships across the industry that help veterinary teams and improve patient care. He and his wife have five kids and raise highland cattle on their farm in Virginia.
